In Italy New Year’s Day has had a peculiar tradition for 11 years – a concert at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. This year, the theatre management put the event in the hands of three young artists much appreciated all over the world: the conductor Diego Matheuz, the tenor Lawrence Brownlee and the soprano Carmen Giannattasio. Needless to say, Lady Maxwell was looking forward to seeing the performance of the Italian diva and the outfits created by the designer Antonio Riva, which didn’t disappoint the expectations.
In Italia, ormai da 11 anni, non c’è Capodanno senza il concerto dal Teatro La Fenice di Venezia. Quest’anno la direzione del teatro ha deciso di affidare il Concerto a tre giovani artisti molto apprezzati in tutto il mondo: il direttore d’orchestra Diego Matheuz, il tenore Lawrence Brownlee e il soprano Carmen Giannattasio. Inutile dire che Lady Maxwell ha atteso con curiosità di vedere la mise della diva italiana…e gli abiti che lo stilista Antonio Riva ha creato per la cantante non hanno smentito l’attesa!
Carmen sang “Casta Diva” (the prayer that the Druid priestess Norma raises to the moon, one of the most beautiful and famous arias by Vincenzo Bellini) wearing a pearl grey silk mikado dress reminiscent of the pearly shades of moonlight. The column dress enhanced the singer’s figure and was embellished on one side by a series of large ruffles forming a floral decoration. The dress was accessorized with earrings and a bracelet by the artist Grace Fortuna Ward.
Per cantare “Casta Diva”, la preghiera che la sacerdotessa druide Norma eleva alla luna – una delle pagine più belle e più celebri di Vincenzo Bellini – Carmen Giannattasio ha indossato un abito in mikado di seta dal color grigio perla che fa ricordare i riflessi perlacei della luce lunare. Con un taglio a tubino, l’abito accarezza la silhouette della cantante ed è arricchito, su di un lato, da una serie di ampie ruches che formano un motivo a fiore. Accompagnavano l’abito, orecchini e bracciale realizzati per il soprano dall’artista Grazia Fortuna Ward.
The second aria sung by the soprano was “Vissi d’arte” from “Tosca” by Giacomo Puccini. The strong passions in the life and art of Floria Tosca were mirrored in the fire red dress worn by Carmen and in the golden touches of her jewellery. The dress by Antonio Riva was characterized by a series of flat ruffles starting on one side and creating a sculptural fan-like decoration. The long stole, made of fire red organza, completed the dramatic outfit and emphasized the original silhouette of the dress. The jewellery by GraziaFortunaWard included a floral-motif bracelet and a lovely tiara, created by mixing red and gold powders and sand.
Il secondo brano proposto dal soprano è stato “Vissi d’arte”, la celeberrima romanza tratta da “Tosca” di Giacomo Puccini. E la mise rosso fuoco, con tocchi dorati nei gioielli, richiama alla mente le forti passioni che muovevano la vita e l’arte di Floria Tosca. Questa volta, l’abito di Antonio Riva era costruito da una successione di ruches piatte che, partendo da un fianco, scendono morbidamente fino allo strascico a creare un motivo quasi scultoreo a ventaglio. La lunga stola, in finissima organza rosso fuoco, completava la ricercata mise esaltando la purezza delle linee dell’abito. Particolarissimi i gioielli, sempre di GraziaFortunaWard: bracciale e coroncina dai finissimi motivi floreali creati dal miscuglio di polveri e sabbie di color rosso e oro.
