Richard Tucker Award 2013: Isabel Leonard

On November 17th the Lincoln Center in New York hosted an event for the centenary of the birth of the great American tenor Richard Tucker. The concert, conducted by Riccardo Frizza, was attended by many opera stars. Many of the attendees were previously awarded by the Tucker Foundation – Stephanie Blythe, Joyce DiDonato, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Patricia Racette, Ailyn Pérez, Angela Meade and the winner of the 2013 Richard Tucker Award , Isabel Leonard, a young rising star of American opera. The New York mezzo-soprano chose three Austin Scarlett and Memeka by Gustavo Cadile outfits.

Il 17  novembre, al Lincon Center di New York, è stato celebrato il centenario dalla nascita del grande tenore americano Richard Tucker con un concerto – diretto dal maestro Riccardo Frizza – al quale hanno partecipato molte stars della lirica. Fra le artiste presenti, molte delle quali già precedentemente premiate dalla Fondazione Tucker: Stephanie Blythe, Joyce DiDonato, Renèe Fleming, Susan Graham, Patricia Racette, Ailyn Pèrez, Angela Meade e la vincitrice del Richard Tucker Award 2013, Isabel Leonard giovane astro nascente della lirica americana. Per questo importante appuntamento, il mezzosoprano newyorkese ha scelto tre abiti firmati Austin Scarlett e Memeka by Gustavo Cadile.

Created by newyorker designer Austin Scarlett, the first evening dress was simple but effective: made of navy blue silk taffeta, it had a tight strapless bodice and low waist-line, while the skirt was slightly flared and had a large train.

Creato dal giovane stilista newyorkese Austin Scarlett, il primo abito da sera, semplicissimo ma di grande effetto: in taffetà di seta color blu marino, stretto corpetto senza spalline e a vita bassa mentre la gonna si apre moderatamente a triangolo terminando in un ampio strascico.

Designed by the Argentinian artist Gustavo Cadile, the second dress, made of olive green taffeta, was reminiscent of the first model but with a change: the long skirt, wide and slightly flared, had an asymmetrical cut and was worn with a petticoat with tulle flounces and ruffles. A modern version of the traditional ballgown!

Disegnato dallo stilista argentino Gustavo Cadile, il secondo abito, sempre in taffetà ma verde oliva, richiama il primo modello con una variante: la lunga gonna, ampia e leggermente svasata, è tagliata obliquamente all’altezza del ginocchio e lascia spazio ad una sottogonna con balze e ruches in tulle. Versione moderna del tradizionale ballgown!

The third Gustavo Cadile’s dress – worn at the Gala Dinner – was in perfect 20s style: tight and with a train, it enhanced Isabel’s body. Made of pink silk satin and lined with a fine black floral valencienne lace, it has accents of black tulle on the bodice to give it a corset effect.

In perfetto stile anni ’20 il terzo vestito – sempre di Gustavo Cadile – indossato alla Cena di Gala: molto aderente e con strascico, ad esaltare la silhouette di Isabel, l’abito è in raso di seta rosa doppiato con un finissimo pizzo valencienne nero a trama floreale; il corpetto è sottolineato da tulle nero a dare un effetto bustier.

The perfect accessories for the three outfits were gorgeous Chopard jewels: long diamond earrings and necklaces in white gold with pendant from the Happy Spirit collection, featuring concentric waves of diamonds surrounding a central diamond stone. Everything highlighted the diva’s beauty!
